Where’s the Snow?

Despite the lack of snow, we've managed to keep most trails in excellent condition for fat biking and snowshoeing. We've also been testing out the new Snowdog, which has performed exceptionally well so far. We're eager to see how it handles deeper snow.

FAQs

We get a lot of questions throughout the year, both in person and online. Here are some of the most common ones, along with our answers:

Who will maintain the new trails once they are built?

We will. While we strive to build sustainable trails that require minimal maintenance, some upkeep is still necessary. Our dedicated volunteers and staff take care of these tasks.

How many miles of trails will there be on Casper Mountain?

The County Commissioner-approved master plan includes approximately 22.5 miles of total trails. However, we expect to have 24–25 miles of accessible trails when the master plan is completed. This total includes campground connectors, realignments, and, of course, new trails.

Do you get paid to build and maintain trails?

We were fortunate to hire an Executive Director this past July. This role serves the community by not only administering our programs but also building trails, maintaining outdoor spaces, leading volunteer groups, grooming winter trails, organizing fundraising activities, developing programs, and cultivating partnerships. We hope to expand our team this coming year by adding more paid staff. This growth is made possible through generous donations, grants, and gifts from supporters like you.

Do you only work on Casper Mountain?

No, we have a strong working relationship with the Natrona County Parks Department and assist with all non-motorized trails in Natrona County. Additionally, we’re developing partnerships with the City of Casper to expand the city’s trail system. Early this fall, we officially expanded into Converse County through a partnership with the City of Douglas and the Outdoor Enthusiasts of Converse County. We’ll be building and maintaining trails at Duncan Ranch and in the Douglas area.

How do I join your board of directors?

Please send a letter of inquiry to centralwyomingtrails@gmail.com. We currently have a few board positions open.

Are we hiring?

That depends on funding. We’re hopeful that we’ll secure the necessary funding to create a couple of six-month part-time positions and a full-time program coordinator role in the near future. We’ll keep everyone updated on our progress and announce when this exciting expansion happens.

Please keep the questions coming—it’s always a pleasure to connect with new people and share what we do! If you or someone you know would like us to speak at an event, drop us an email. We’d love to discuss our future goals and mission with you and your team.

See you on the trails!
