New Trails in Douglas, Wyoming

As Wyoming’s outdoor recreation industry continues to grow, Douglas is joining the movement. Despite the wealth of outdoor activities in and around the area, one key element has been missing: local multi-use trails. That’s changing—and the change is happening now.

We’ve been asked to build multi-use trails in the town of Douglas, specifically in an area known as Douglas Mountain. This space will provide year-round recreational opportunities, including mountain biking, hiking, trail running, wildlife viewing, outdoor photography, sledding, and snowshoeing.

Bringing this vision to life has taken nearly a decade of effort and collaboration. According to Toby Spence, founder of the Outdoor Enthusiasts of Converse County (OECC), "This has been a dream for over 10 years." Thanks to persistent dedication and partnerships with Wyoming-based nonprofits, the project is finally becoming a reality.

Work officially began last Wednesday, January 29, and we’re taking advantage of the "warmer" weather while we can. We’ll remain on-site throughout this week and into the weekend, with plans to resume operations in late March or April, continuing through June if needed. In this first phase, we aim to complete most of the single-track trail, along with mountain bike-optimized trails and features.

Want a sneak peek? Join OECC and CWTA for an on-site tour this Sunday at 10 a.m. If you can’t make it, follow us or OECC on Facebook and Instagram for updates. We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to Wyoming’s outdoor recreation future right here in Douglas.

Trail Update

The warmer weather has led to some icy conditions but has also kept trails packed and fast! However, strong winds have caused drifting, making some trails difficult to access for grooming. With more snow in the forecast, we’ll be back out soon to get the trails in top shape.

  • Glendo is a great option for mountain biking.

  • All other central Wyoming trails are in good condition for winter activities.

  • The Bridle Trail is extremely slick and icy—use caution!

See you on the trails!
