Tuesday Trail Talks: July 23, 2024
More Trail…
We were super excited to announce the groundbreaking of our newest approved trail on Casper Mountain. We have partnered with Casper Area Mountain Bike Youth Racing team (CAMBYR) for our Monday night trail builds. This group of energetic racers will be taught trail building from the beginning process of trail concept and layout through trail construction completion. Throughout this process we will discuss slope and grade concerns with multi-use and specific use trails, water erosion mitigation techniques, tool usage as well as wildlife concerns and vegetation types. With this information we will also discuss when and how we remove trees and brush and ultimately how this impacts the ecosystem as a whole. This new trail will replace the current, short fall-line spillway trail providing a better riding experience. This trail will pull the faster, more advanced rider off of the heavily trafficked north Eadsville decent. There will also be a connector trail to allow two way traffic and users a way out before entering the Double Black area which will only allow downhill bike traffic. This connector is located on an old, un-managed fire line break. As part of our efforts we will be reinforcing this break by removing overgrowth and ladder fuels. This whole trail corridor will be labeled as an advanced level trail, however, alternate line options will be in place for users of growing abilities. We will keep this trail open as a multi-use trail but will caution hikers of the presence of descending mountain bikes. Our current trail system now comprises 20% of green or easy use trail, 70% of blue or intermediate trail, and 10% of black or advanced level trail. These percentages will change as we move forward on the KayLinn master plan implementation with trail additions in the McMurry Mountain Park area. Our goal is to provide a vast array of use opportunities for our diverse non-motorized user groups. Please follow us on this trail build series, we will be posting updates on progress as we get this new, advanced level trail constructed.
Soft Opening
Both new green trails are open for use in the Miner Loop area. We have yet to place trail signage and trail markings. There is some minor maintenance work to be completed as well as debris removal. We will announce a grand opening when all cleanup and maintenance is performed. These new trails allow users of all ages and abilities to enjoy. The trail Fools Gold that starts at the west side of the new Nordic lodge allows strider bike usage all the way to stadium and into the log lined trails in the vicinity. Mine Shaft is the other new trail that has a flow-feel from both directions and crosses the entire Miner Loop area. Here is a map of the new trails. Official additions and mapping will be done in the near future as well. Enjoy.
